NASIR JONES-"THE WORLD IS YOURS"

On September 14th, 1973 one of the most influential rappers of the last 20 years was born. Nasir Bin Olu Dara Jones. Some people call him NAS, or the artist formerly known as “Nasty Nas” whatever you call him, call him a GAMECHANGER. Nas is regarded as one of the most important figures in Hip Hop largely due to the HEAVY “substance” level of his music. This virtual “Genius” of the Hip Hop genre dropped out of school after his parents divorced in 1985. Nas was only in the 8th grade, he educated himself using the Bible, the Quran, and the Knowledge, Wisdom, and Understanding of the 5 percent nation. Now, we must seriously understand this statement, NAS communicates information to a depth that most “preaching” men can’t reach, and this man educated himself through scripture and supreme mathematics? Nasir Jones is another “Proof” that the real “truths” of the “self” are found with God not with man.
Few people know that before he chose the name Nas he was “Kid Wave” and his DJ was childhood friend, Willy “Ill Will” Graham. After a meeting with producer “Large Professor” Nas was allowed to frequent the same studio that Hip Hop legends Rakim and Kool G Rap were recording their albums. In 1991, Nas performed on Main Source’s “Live at the Barbeque”. Nas’s talents were so evident in his short verses on the Main Source project that MC Serch of 3rd Bass approached him to be his manager. This new situation brought about the single “Halftime” which we all know was a banger. In 1994, Nas’s debut album, Illmatic, was finally released. It also featured production from Large Professor, Pete Rock, Q-Tip, L.E.S. and DJ Premier, as well as guest appearances from Nas’s friend AZ and his father Olu Dara.
